Paste a YouTube dance practice video. Run It Back mirrors it, slows it down, counts you in and loops each 8-count until you've got it.
Press Listen with the sound on (not in headphones) and the app works out the tempo. Or tap along to about 8 beats (the video starts at half speed, which makes it easier), or type the BPM. It only needs to be close: step 3 makes it exact.
Play to the first count of the choreography and press the button. Most exact: pause right on the 1, step with the arrows below, then press.
Skip ahead to another 1. The further away the better: near the end of the song is best. The app counts the 8-counts in between and works out the exact tempo.
Turn on Flash or Click under the video and play. The edge flashes on every count (green on the 1), and the click marks each count. If it's a little early or late, use Timing below. If the 1 is on the wrong beat, redo step 2.
Tip: if the count drifts later in the song, mark a later 1 (step 3) further away.
It starts as the whole song. To learn just a part, drag the two pink handles, or tap the bar to jump and set a handle to the playhead.
Each video keeps its own plan. New videos start with the plan you used last.
On a long song this adds up: with 1, a 36-block song gets about 40 extra minutes at 1×. Try 4 for about 12.
If the video doesn't have that many counts before a part, such as at the very start, the count-in loops round and plays the last counts of the part first.
Dance along to the video while your camera records you, then watch yourself next to the dancers to see what to fix. Prop your phone up so you're in the picture.
⏺ Record counts down 3 seconds, then plays the video from where it is, at the speed you've chosen. It stops when you press ■ Stop or pause the video. To start somewhere else, move the video there first. Only your latest recording is kept, on this phone, until you close the video.
