What's saved, and where
Your covers (the video link, title, tempo, trimmed part, practice settings and where you left off) are saved in your browser's storage on your own device. They are never sent to us, and there is no account. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them.
Your camera
If you press 📷 Me (or turn the camera on in the Record tab), the app shows you from your front camera in a corner of the video. It only records when you press ⏺ Record in the Record tab: then it records until you press ■ Stop or the video stops, for up to 10 minutes, so you can watch yourself back next to the video. The camera window shows "● REC" while it records. Only your latest recording is kept, in the browser's memory while the video is open: it is never saved on your device or sent anywhere, and it's gone when you record again or leave the video. The camera turns off when you turn it off or go back to the home page. We count that the camera was turned on, that a recording was started, and that one was watched back, nothing more.
The microphone
If you press Listen for the beat (in the Beats tab), the app listens through your microphone for about 12 seconds while the video plays, to work out its tempo. The sound is only analysed on your device and thrown away straight after: it is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. The microphone turns off as soon as it has listened. We count that the button was used, nothing more.
Share links
When you share a practice, everything is inside the link itself: the video, its title, the beat, the part and, if you choose, your practice plan. Never where you got to. It's after the "#" in the link, so it isn't sent to any server, including ours. It only goes where you send it. We count that a link was made or opened, but not what's in it.
The debug log
The Log button keeps a short technical log on your device, to help fix problems. It never includes video links or titles, and it only leaves your device if you copy it and send it to someone yourself.
Visit counts
We count visits with GoatCounter, so we know how many people use Run It Back and which features help. It uses no cookies and doesn't track you across sites. For each visit it records the page, the site you came from, your browser, screen size and country. Your IP address is used only to work out the country and isn't stored. It also counts a few moments in the app: a video loaded, practice started or finished, the app installed, a share link made or opened, the camera turned on, the beat listened for, a recording started or watched back, the new look switched on or off, and the tip link pressed. Never which video, or anything you typed.
Tips
The tip link opens a separate site that handles the payment under its own privacy policy. Nothing about your practice is sent to it.
Ads
The home page and the guides show ads from Google AdSense. Never the video or your practice. Google may use cookies to show and measure ads, and to show ads based on your interests where that's allowed. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you're asked first. Google's own policy explains how it uses this information: how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Nothing about your covers or practice is sent with the ads.
YouTube
Videos play through YouTube's embedded player, and the pictures in My covers are YouTube's own video thumbnails. So YouTube receives the usual information any embedded video gets (such as your IP address and the video you're watching) and may set its own cookies. See Google's privacy policy.
Working offline
If you install the app, a copy of its own files is kept on your device so it opens without a connection. Videos still need the internet.
Changes
If this ever changes (for example, if we add ads), this page will say so first, with the date updated above.
